Elizabeth Wanning Harries is Helen and Laura Shedd Professor of Modern Languages, with an A.B. from Vassar and a PhD. in Comparative Literature from Yale. She teaches a wide range of courses in English and in Comparative Literature, from English 120 (Fiction, Fact and Fiction) and English 199 (Methods in Literary Study) to Western Classics, What Jane Austen Read, Writing Women in the 18th Century, Romanticism, and Fairy Tales and Gender. Her book The Unfinished Manner: Essays on the Fragment in the Later Eighteenth Century came out in 1994; her next book Twice upon a Time: Women Writers and the History of the Fairy Tale came out in hard cover in 2001 and in paper in 2003. She is currently working on a book about narrative framing.
