English 400 (Special Studies): Virginia Woolf in the Real World

This class will be a 2-credit course held in conjunction with the 13th Annual Virginia Woolf Conference to take place here at Smith, 5-8 June 2003. Students will attend six classes during spring term (Thursdays at 1:00), reading and discussing some of Woolf's most important work. Reading list will likely include: Virginia Woolf by Hermione Lee; four novels by Woolf (Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, The Waves, Between the Acts), and supplementary texts drawn from her essays and stories. All students will be required to attend the conference.

Course requirements: 6 class meetings during the spring term; a reactive journal kept during the conference; a 10 page paper submitted by the end of June.
