ENG 120 Fiction

Each colloquium is conducted by means of directed discussion, with emphasis on close reading and the writing of short analytical essays. Priority will be given to incoming students in the fall–semester sections of the colloquia. Other students should consult the course director about possible openings. Enrollment in each section limited to 18.
A study of the novel, novella, and short story, stressing the formal elements of fiction, with intensive analysis of works by such writers as Austen, Dickens, James, Faulkner, Joyce, Lawrence, and Woolf.
