Degrees:
B.S. Bridgewater State College
M.E.D. Smith College
Ed.D. University of Massachusetts-Amherst

Research Interests:

One of my current interests is exploring ways that multimedia technology can be used effectively by teachers and deaf children as part of the teaching/learning process. In conjunction with this, I was a leader in two successive federally supported PT3 (Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology) grants from 1999-2003, which were designed to help teacher educators and teachers of deaf children across the U.S.

In 2003 I helped to establish a collaborative program with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) that provides intensive post-master's training for teachers to become more knowledgeable about cochlear implants, an exciting technology that has dramatically changed the lives of deaf children. These semi-annual, multi-week sessions have been most successful and now have been expanded to centers in Palo Alto, CA and Atlanta, GA.

Courses:
EDC 249 and 564 plus sharing in 563 and 569 during the academic year
EDC 577, 578 and 579 during the semi-annual Smith-Clarke-CHOP program sessions

Representative Publications:

My professional writing originally focused on helping with the development of curriculum guides at Clarke School for the Deaf. For most of my career at Smith I have concentrated on grant proposal writing, which has resulted in Smith’s receiving over $4 million in federal and private funds to support the preparation of teachers of deaf children.
