LEARN TO USE THE LANGUAGE OF VISUAL ARTS
The art elements – line, texture, shape, color and value – are part of every work of art. They are the building blocks from which drawings, paintings, sculptures and collages are created. The same elements are the keys to unlocking and understanding the vision of an artist and the way a particular work affects the viewer. The art principles – repetition, rhythm, balance, contrast, and emphasis - help us understand how the art elements are arranged in any given work of art.
Through writing and discussion, students develop a deeper appreciation for their own work, for the work of their classmates, and for pivotal works from the history of art.
