Susan Stratton Sayre earned her B.A. in economics and religion from Swarthmore College and her M.S. and Ph.D. in agricultural and resource economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Sayre teaches in both the economics department and the Environmental Science and Policy Program at Smith. Her research addresses how political and economic forces influence the development of environmental and resource policy, with a particular focus on water policy. Current applications include negotiations over the future of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in California and the differential development of groundwater policy in two neighboring basins in Spain.
