Jina E. Kim's research focuses on the cultural history of early-20th-century East Asia with primary concentrations in Korean and global modernisms, urban literature and history, comparative colonialism and post-colonialism. Her other research interests include material and popular culture from the late 19th century to the present.

Kim is completing a book manuscript tentatively titled Urban Modernity in Colonial Korea and Taiwan.
