Suk Massey earned a bachelor's degree in English language and literature, two master's degrees (in teaching English as a second language and in English literature) and a certificate of advanced graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Education. Her research areas were globalization and its effects on nonnative English-speaking teachers of English in Korea, second language acquisition, English for specific purposes and heritage and nonheritage Korean language learners.
Massey has more than twenty years of experience teaching language both in Korea and in the United States. In addition to her teaching, she has developed language proficiency tests for Korean bilingual teachers in the Unites States. Further, she has coordinated several intensive English study programs including ecumenical English training for Korean pastors and a summer English camp for students at Ewha Women's University in Seoul, Korea.
