Tom Rohlich is on sabbatical leave for the 2009-2010 academic year. He will spend the fall semester as a Visiting Researcher at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, where he will be working on a study of the changing concept of the ‘Mountain Village’ (yamazato) in premodern Japanese literature. When he isn’t on sabbatical he regularly teaches courses on Japanese literature, and occasionally First Year Seminars and Japanese language courses. The literature courses include the survey course on traditional Japanese literature (EAL241), a course on the Japanese poetic tradition (EAL243), and a seminar on The Tale of Genji (EAL360).
