Maki Hirano Hubbard, Ph. D.

M.A. in Japanese Literature and Language, University of Wisconsin-Madison
B.A. in Japanese Art History, Waseda University, Tokyo.

 Maki Hubbard teaches Japanese language courses at various levels, and a socio-linguistics courses, such as “Japanese Language and Culture,” designed for students to critically investigate the historical and social background of the language. Her publications have concentrated on pragmatics and gender issues in the Japanese language, but more recently she is interested in problems in national language policies and language rights.

Office Hours (Spring 2008): Fridays 2:10-4:00 pm.
