2011 Japanese Studies Scholarship

The Japanese Government’s Monbukagakusho (MEXT)

Purpose: To provide students with an intensive course in the Japanese language and an introduction to various aspects of Japanese studies.

Potential awardees:
US citizens who were born between April 2, 1980 and April 1, 1992
and must be undergraduate students majoring in fields related to Japanese language or culture at a university outside of Japan.

Boston Consulate Deadline:  Completed applications must be receivedin our office by the close of business on Friday, March 5, 2011.

The Award of ROC (Taiwan) Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) for Foreign Students

Purpose: To encourage international students and individuals to undertake Mandarin Chinese language study in Taiwan.

Potential awardees: 1. High School graduates 2. College students 3. Chinese language teachers seeking further Mandarin training or advanced degree

Length of scholarships: In general, 1year. Cultural Division at TECO Boston can also grant recipients an award period of 9 months, 6 months or 3 months.

Benefits: NT$25,000* per month for undergraduate students. Recipients are responsible for their tuitions and other personal expenses exceeding the amount.

Taiwan Government-sponsored Scholarship Awards

Taiwan Scholarship Proram

Funded by: Jiontly funded by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
the National Science Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Purpose: To ecourage promising foreign students to pursue their degree studies in Taiwan

Potential awardees: 1. High School graduates 2. College students 3. Chinese language teachers seeking further Mandarin training or advanced degree

Length of scholarships: Undergrad: Max. 4 yrs Master: Max 2 yrs Ph. D: Max. 3 yrs. Pre-degree Language Enrichment Program is available (max. 1 year at the first year of program)

Benefits: NT$25,000* per month for undergraduate students, NT$ 30,000* a month for graduate students

Funded by: Ministry of Education

Purpose: To encourage non-heritage students to enhance their mandarin language skills in Taiwan

Potential awardees: 1. High School graduates 2. College students 3. Chinese language teachers seeking further Mandarin training or advanced degree

Length of scholarships: Maximun up to 1 year

Benefits: A stipend of NT$25,000* per month will be provided

Intensive Mandarin Study Group Grant Program

Funded by: Ministry of Education

Purpose: To encourage foreign schools to organize study abroad program for Mandarin study in Taiwan

Potential awardees: College or high school senior Mandarin study groups organized by schools

Length of scholarships: Minimun 3 weeks or longer

Benefits: Maximun funding up to US$5,000 for groups consisting of minmun 10 students studying in Taiwan for 6 weeks
