Rich Gilbert Years of service at Smith: 22 years! Birthplace: Northampton, MA Pets: Cleo, my border collie Educational background: I went to school in Hatfield, MA up to Junior High School. I then transferred to Smith Vocational HS where I studied Culinary Arts. Food Service Background: While I was studying Culinary Arts at Smith Voc, I worked my way up to cook at Wiggins Tavern at the Hotel Northampton. I continued there for one more year after graduating, and then came to Smith College as a cook. Favorite meal to prepare for Smith students: I love to fix what the students like. Two of our favorites are Chicken Piccata and Chicken Fajitas. What is the best part of your job: Working with the staff at Hubbard! We work hard, but have fun doing it. What is the hardest part of your job: Getting the right balance in ordering food for Hubbard. You want just enough without over producing, and sometimes the student counts can surprise you. Funniest Smith memory: The time I forgot to put the chicken in the oven for a Senior Dinner and was in a panic. My dining room coordinator, Theresa, bailed me out by slowing down the service and saying we were having trouble with our ovens. What 2 items do you always have in your refrigerator: I always have Mayonnaise and Ranch Dressing. Hobbies: I practice Magic which I do for fun, as well as for a part time job Favorite vacation destination: LAS VEGAS! Favorite restaurant: Bill’s Seafood in Westbrook, CT. Musical interests: It varies, but I particularly like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Celine Dion, Josh Groban and Elvis Presley.? Little known fact: I impersonate Elvis Presley, costume and all, as well as some others celebrities, and my fellow co-workers.
