The Sponsored Research Office (SRO) officially began in June 2004 and is part of the Office of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty. The SRO assists faculty, staff, and students in the process of applying for outside funding and in the administration of their grants and awards. We work closely with other offices on campus to accomplish this, including the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Controller’s Office. All grant proposals submitted to external funding sources must first be reviewed and approved by the SRO. The SRO oversees NSF Fastlane and NIH eRA Commons user accounts and proposal submissions, and we coordinate and submit all Grants.gov applications.
The goals of the SRO are to:
 |
Clarify the procedures for applying
for external grants and awards, and to streamline them as much as possible.
Application procedure guidelines are posted on the SRO website, along
with the college's Grant and Contract Proposal Processing Form.

Provide common institutional
facts, figures, and data. We will in some cases have this information on hand, and in other cases will work with grant applicants and other college offices in finding it.

 |
Assist in developing and reviewing grant budgets.
We work closely with the Grants Manager in the Controller's Office in this process.

 |
Discuss with applicants the need
for college matching funds, commitments of space or equipment, salary
supplements, and release time from teaching. In most cases, the Associate Provost is authorized to make such commitments and can sign letters attesting to them.

Assist Principal Investigators(PI)in
the administration of their grants. The SRO office will not take on the
responsibilities of the Controller's Office or Human Resources, but it
will offer guidance on the policies and services of these and other college
offices and, where necessary, work with these offices to resolve questions
and problems.
