- Participation and Responsibilities of Part-Time
Faculty:
- Departments should encourage professional
activities from their part-time Faculty members,
and should attempt to provide opportunities
to teach and otherwise participate in their
areas of specialization.
- A part-time Faculty
member with a yearly
contract shall, after
the equivalent of one
year of full-time teaching,
be considered as a
voting member of his
or her department and
in the general Faculty.
- Part-time
Faculty
members
shall
be
eligible
to
carry
their
share
of
responsibilities
such
as
advising
students,
serving
on
committees,
directing
theses,
etc.
- Part-time
Faculty
members
shall
be
eligible
to
apply
for
a
sabbatical
after
teaching
the
equivalent
of
a
four-year
full-time
teaching
load.
- Evaluation:
- It is the responsibility
of the part-time Faculty
member to keep the department
informed of all of his
or her professional activities.
- A
record
shall
be kept
in both
the President's
Office,
the Office
of the
Dean
of the
Faculty
and the
departmental
files
of all
of the
professional
activities
of each
part-time
member
of the
Faculty.
That
record,
to be
brought
up-to-date
each
year
by the
individual
on a
form
provided
by the
Office
of the
Dean
of the
Faculty
shall
include
(1) courses
taught,
other
teaching
activities,
committee
memberships
or administrative
duties
in the
department
and the
College;
(2) publications,
scholarly
lectures
and papers,
work
in progress,
professional
activities
such
as editorial
work,
participation
in professional
organizations,
consulting,
and any
other
activities
that
are part
of the
individual's
scholarly
and academic
performance.
- The
procedures
followed
in
all
cases
of
appointment,
promotion,
and
tenure
with
regard
to
evaluation
of
teaching
and
scholarship
are
those
procedures
as
defined
in Section
II (Criteria
and
Evidence), Section
III (Promotion),
and Section
IV (Tenure).
- In
determining
eligibility
for
sabbaticals,
or
for
determining
the
probationary
period
before
the
tenure
decision,
all
occasional
semester
appointments
should
be
included
for
persons
on
appointments
of
one
year
or
more.
- In
any
case
involving
promotion,
tenure,
or
removal
from
the
Faculty,
it
shall
be
left
to
the
discretion
of
the
President
if
and
when
a
joint
meeting
of
the
Committee
on
Tenure
and
Promotion
and
the
Executive
Committee
of
the
Board
of
Trustees
is
in
order.
