Office of the Provost & Dean of the Faculty

The office of the provost and dean of the faculty is the chief academic office of Smith College, ensuring a broad and deep array of outstanding teaching, learning, and research experiences for students and faculty. We are a 12-member team who direct and integrate the varied academic efforts of the college in order to create a thriving academic community. We support faculty across the arc of their professional lives – from curricular innovation to compensation, professional development, and external grants. We are committed to aligning academic resources with the college’s curricular mission and making Smith a great place to learn and work.

Ensures excellence and prosperity in teaching, learning and research at Smith, now and for the future. Creates and leads collaborative processes with all academic heads to advance a shared academic vision.

Ensures thriving academic programs at Smith, aligning resources with the curricular and co-curricular missions of the college in a sustainable and equitable way.

Danielle Carr Ramdath, Associate Dean of the Faculty      (413) 585-3000
Ensures that Smith faculty are positioned to shape the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and advance their professional development through all stages of their careers. She cultivates effective, respectful partnerships with and within the Provost/Dean of Faculty office.

Jayne Mercier, Academic Coordinator and

Promotes and strengthens Smith’s academic programs by facilitating relationships between the Provost and internal/external constituencies and coordinating the deans, faculty, and other college offices in major academic initiatives. She is the primary point of contact for the Provost, Katherine Rowe.

Sandra Blaney, Faculty Recruitment & Appointment Specialist     585-3004
Promotes a fair and inclusive faculty culture at Smith by ensuring consistent application of faculty search, recruitment, and hiring policies. Contact me for: tenure-track and non-tenure track searches; research associate appointments; and onboarding of new faculty members and instructors. Sandra is the primary calendar contact for the Associate Provost, Bill Peterson.

Cynthia Di Geronimo, Faculty Data & Salary Manager     585-3003
Promotes consistent, equitable, and sustainable compensation practices for faculty over time, by stewarding, curating and analyzing data on faculty compensation. Contact me for: salary and payment inquiries.

Dana Filibert, Curricular Catalog Specialist     585-3008
Provides Smith students and faculty with the curricular information they need to plan successful courses of study, overseeing the integrity of the course catalog. Contact me for: curricular approval guidelines; new course proposals and/or modifications to the major/minor; and print/online catalog preparation.

Saari Greylock, Budget Manager     585-3007
Develops sustainable academic budget models that advance Smith’s educational mission, overseeing academic financial resources in close collaboration with the Associate Provost and Budget Office. Promotes a thriving research culture at Smith by shepherding the review and approval process of external grant proposals and aligning internal and external partners. Contact me for: external grant deadlines, preparation, and submission; external grant budgets/expenditures administered by the Provost including concentrations and design thinking; hiring UMass graduate student RAs.

Hayley Spizz, Faculty Policies Specialist     585-3005
Promotes fairness and equity through ensuring consistent application of Smith faculty policies by faculty, staff, and administration. Contact me for: reappointment, tenure, and promotion procedures and questions; sabbaticals and leaves; faculty record sheets.

Patty Tran, Schedule Coordinator     585-3000
