The
CAP has established a policy that all courses will begin at the
standard time for the block.
Normally, the academic
credit for Smith College courses shall be awarded at the rate of
4 credits per course. With the exception of seminars, 4-credit courses
may not require less than the equivalent of 150 minutes of lecture/discussion
per week (where 110-120 minutes of laboratory/performance/studio
equals 50 minutes of lecture/discussion). Seminars for 4 credits
must require at least 110 minutes of class time per week. Exceptions
to these guidelines will require the approval of the Committee on
Academic Priorities and the Faculty. Courses may be offered for other
than 4 credits if justified within the context of both the department's
curriculum and the College's curriculum. The credit for such courses
(e.g., 2-credit courses and 6-credit courses) shall be determined
through reference to the weekly class time requirements for the 4-credit
course described above. (Ref. Code of
Faculty Legislation and Administrative Practice.)
