The Provost and Dean of the Faculty serves as the chief academic officer and works closely with the President of the College. She is responsible for the curriculum and for support for faculty teaching and research; she chairs the Committee on Academic Priorities and oversees the long-term composition of the faculty. Marilyn joined the Smith faculty in 1971. She is a founding member of the Program for the Study of Women & Gender and has been a member of the French Studies Department and the Comparative Literature Program.

Associate Provost and Dean for Academic

Dean O'Rourke oversees the financial and faculty
development areas of the Office of the Provost. He has responsibility
for faculty support in research and teaching, chairs the Committee on Faculty Compensation
and Development and the Committee on Study Abroad, and serves as the director of sponsored research. Among his responsibilities are Athletics, the Botanic Garden, the Clark Science Center, the Campus School, and non-tenure-track faculty recruitment, hiring, and reappointment. Joe joined Smith's Computer Science Department in 1988. |

Associate Dean of the Faculty

Danielle Ramdath serves as director of graduate
programs, coordinates the college’s visiting scholars program, and assists
with programming and faculty development initiatives. She serves as the staff
liaison to the Committee on Academic Priorities, manages the staff and workflow
in the Office of the Provost, and works closely with academic assistants across
the campus. Before coming to Smith in 2007, she taught mathematics at Bryn
Mawr and Sarah Lawrence Colleges and served as a Program Officer in Higher
Education at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Jayne serves as the Assistant to the Provost,
handling her appointments and daily schedule. She supports the decennial
review process and the Lecture Committee, as well as the Liberal Arts Luncheon series. She also provides supplemental
support work for the Office of the Board of Trustees, and maintains our office's website.
Hayley can help you with sabbatical eligibility as well as reappointment, tenure and promotion matters. She also serves as Program Coordinator for Celebrating Collaborations, provides support to the Chaired Professor Committee, Sherrerd Teaching Award Committee, Visiting Scholars Committee, Committee on Study Abroad, Jacobson Center, Phi Beta Kappa, and receives Faculty Record Sheets.
Cynthia can assist with information on faculty
salaries and records, appointment letters, and retirement issues. She also has responsibility
for reports, surveys, and related information pertaining to faculty appointments
and salaries.
Saari serves as the Faculty Recruitment Specialist and Assistant to the Associate Provost, providing support and training for all faculty and course support searches. She supports the Committee on Faculty Compensation and Development (CFCD) and assists with CFCD grants and policy, Fellowships, and other special funding to support scholarship and curriculum development. She also maintains the Associate Provost's calendar and provides support for all other financial matters related to the Provost's Office.
Emily serves as the Sponsored Research Office
Administrator, working with faculty, staff, and students in the area of external
grant application and administration processes and procedures. She also helps oversee
work related to regulatory boards such as the College's Institutional Review Boards.
In addition, Emily provides financial tracking and management of several faculty
development and other institutional grants, notably a number of our Mellon Foundation
grants.
Ruth is the administrative assistant for graduate
programs. She provides support work related to all aspects of our graduate offerings
and works closely with the director of graduate programs, as well as departmental
graduate advisers.
Patty is our front desk Administrative Assistant.
She will be happy to direct your calls, help you if you are unsure of who to contact,
or assist with any matters not covered above. She also handles faculty reader requests,
mailing lists. She maintains the Associate Dean's calendar and schedules the Emma
Proctor Conference Room (College Hall 301).
