GRADUATE STUDENT PROFILES
Virginia Scholl, 1979
"I remember clearly the afternoon I first saw Susan Waltner sitting bare footed on the sunlit floor of the boathouse studio at Smith. I was 23, had not danced since I gave up ballet 10 years earlier, and had never seen anyone doing modern dance; this was a transformative moment in my life! So I began coming to Smith for classes, studying Laban Movement Analysis, and taking classes with Becky Nordstrom at Windham College. When the Five College MFA was organized, I jumped at the chance to legitimately study modern dance and fill in all those holes in my experience, and to be able to share the journey with Becky. It did just what I hoped for, and gave me the training and confidence to go on to a career of teaching dance and being part of a small local performing group."
For the past 15 years Virginia Scholl has been teaching dance and various movement/learning
classes at Landmark College in Putney, Vermont. She also takes weekly Tai Chi, Sabre and Fan
classes with Cielle Tewksbury.
