Dean Jane Stangl

Jane Stangl is Dean of the First-Year    Class, after having spent a number of years as a member of the Exercise & Sport Studies faculty.  She served as the  Acting Dean of the First Year Class for three semesters during that time frame.  She earned her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point in psychology and sociology, an M.A. in sociology from Bowling Green State University and her Ph.D. in physical cultural studies in sport from the University of Iowa.  Dean Stangl teaches a graduate course on the sociocultural analysis of sport, and has taught IDP sessions on summer first year readings.

As an undergraduate Dean Stangl engaged in Southeast Asian studies at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. She enjoys reading, swimming, and travelling, and dabbles in calligraphy and woodwork.  Her favorite past-time is golf where she also teaches occasional professional day clinics for women.

To meet with Dean Stangl you may stop by during her Walk-In Hours on Monday from 10:30 - 12:00 and Thursday from 1:30 - 3:00pm, or you may contact her assistant at ext. 4910 to schedule an appointment during regular office hours, 8:30am - 4:30pm M, T, Th, F and 10:00am - 4:30pm on W.  Please check our announcements for any special changes to these times.
