Since
the Translation Unit's inception in 1987,
the unit has translated a dozen Sanskrit
texts into Hindi, English and Tibetan as
well as publishing critical editions.
Among
the most important major magnum opus
texts of restoration of canonical texts
from Tibetan sources, the unit has restored
to Sanskrit the Vajracchedika, Prajnaparamita,
Katantronadi Sutra with Druga Commentary,
Seven Treatises of Atisa, Satagathaa of
Acarya Vararuci and a second edition of
the Bodhipathpradvipah.
In
addition, the unit has taken up translation
works from eminent Tibetan masters into
Hindi and English, as well as translating
from Sanskrit to Hindi.
The
Translation Unit has also been involved
in translating the proceedings from important
seminars, such as Baudha dharsan-samskriti
evam sahitya mahapandita Rahula Samkrtyayana
ka Yogadana; Gandhi ke Gramswaraj Siddhanta
ki Prtyaveksa; and, Dharmanirpeksta evam
Rastriya ekta.
The
Translation Unit has held two workshops
on translation methodology for the student
community at CIHTS and have organised several
Sanskrit short camps within the campus.
The Unit has actively collaborated with
the Five Colleges of Massachussets USA and
the University of Tasmania. The current
Editor of the Translation Unit was the first
ever faculty member to teach at the Hampshire
College, USA and at Amherst College, USA
under the exchange programme instituted
between CIHTS and these universities.
