Approval of November 11th minutes

The November 11th minutes were approved as written.

Report from ITCC – Jamie Hubbard

Jamie Hubbard told the committee that the two main issues discussed at the ITCC meeting were (1) compliance with HEOA regulations and (2) wireless network expansion.

He gave a brief history of the HEOA (Higher Education Opportunity Act) and spoke about the downloading of copyright materials, illegal file sharing, Smith responsibility to respond to inquiries from RIAA and MCAA. He said that another issue in this Act is that by July 2010 our online course catalog must include a list of required and optional texts as well as their prices.

He said that there was also a discussion about the wireless network on campus; where the project stood right now and whether funds should be used to move the project forward or whether the funds should be used to underwrite more of the Banner Xtender project. Herb will consider the options and make a decision about how best to use the available funds.

Jamie, Gary, and Melissa all expressed an interest in further discussion of the copyright issue and increasing campus awareness of the issues with the increased compliance regulations.

CET grant initiatives

  1. Jon Caris’ request for $4,788.00 to purchase digital pens and Capturx for ArcGIS extension for Spatial Analysis data collection was approved.

  2. Ellen Kaplan’s request for $2,000.00 to hire student assistants to implement the Isadora program and to purchase copyright clearances for video archival footage was denied. The committee felt that this proposal should go to the Dean for Academic Development.
