Hemlock Woolly Adelgid
Students Jake Pecht '12, Claudette Nitard '13, and Yanning Yu '13 spent their summers busy at the MacLeish Field Station, studying the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid which poses a significant threat to eastern hemlock. Under the direction of Professors Amy Rhodes in the geosciences and Andrew Guswa in engineering, students investigated the ways in which replacement of hemlock forests by other tree species could alter the geochemistry and hydrology of natural forests.
