Colleges can positively contribute to local communities, and the Center for Community Collaboration (CCC) is committed to being a good neighbor and community member. We know that college-community partnerships not only sustain stronger communities and advance community goals, but also support and advance our goals as an educational institution. Community partnerships provide valuable opportunities for Smith students to learn with and from community members about the real- world implications of their academic studies, about their own values and passions, and about how to be active, responsible members of a community. For researchers, these relationships offer opportunities to collaborate with community organizations in the active generation—and application—of knowledge to benefit society.
The CCC develops and maintains reciprocal, long-term, in-depth partnerships with community organizations. These mutually beneficial relationships focus on community-identified needs and issues, bringing together students, faculty and staff to work with our community partners in community service, community-based learning courses, community-based participatory research and outreach programs.
