Museum of Art Education Programs

The Smith College Museum of Art (SCMA) displays artworks from around the world and from ancient times to the present day. We offer professional development opportunities for teachers, as well as free thematic and customized guided tours, frameworks-based teacher packets (these include suggested activities and a CD of images to use in the classroom), and self-guided visits. Teacher Workshops include engaging, hands-on experiences with museum staff, artists, and Smith College faculty. Pre-K-12 programs in particular are targeted to provide students with meaningful experiential and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and to give teachers support for their endeavors in the classroom. The museum also offers bus subsidies to defray the cost of transportation to the museum. All school tour groups and their chaperones may visit the museum free of charge. Teachers who wish to preview the museum for a class visit may contact the education department for a free pass.
