Smith House Tours: Wilson House

Take a tour of Wilson House with Leigh Johnston ’18. Named for Martha Wilson 1895, Wilson House is one of 10 houses in the “Great Quadrangle” or the Quad, a beautiful area set off from the main campus close to Paradise Pond. While the houses of the West Quad are larger than other Smith houses, there is still the classic Smith housing environment of community, support and fun. In this video, Leigh shares why she loves living at Wilson.

Creating Community: The Black Students' Alliance

The Black Students’ Alliance (BSA) at Smith College is one of the oldest established cultural organizations on campus. BSA represents all students who identify as black regardless of socioeconomic status, religious beliefs or political affiliation. It aims to establish strong intercollegiate bonds between all black organizations within the Five College area, and to develop educational programs that promote awareness to the greater community.

Reimagining Neilson in the 21st Century

The New York Historical Society was the setting for a presentation and conversation about  “Reimagining Neilson in the 21st Century.” Smith President Kathleen McCartney, Dean and Provost of the College Katherine Rowe and celebrated designer Maya Lin discussed the changing role of college libraries, how the Smith community has been actively engaged in the transformation process, and fusing history and innovation in the Neilson Library redesign project. The event took place on February 11, 2016.

American Studies Diploma Program Celebrates 50 Years

More than 50 graduates of Smith’s “foreign legion”—that is, international students who came to Smith for the one-year American Studies Diploma Program (DIPL)—traveled to campus to celebrate the program’s fiftieth anniversary during All-Reunion weekend and to reminisce about what Smith meant—and continues to mean—in their lives.
