SAFETY TIPS

Smith offers programs designed to inform students and employees about Campus Police procedures and practices, and to encourage students and employees to be responsible for their own security and the security of others. These programs include:

A three-hour panel presentation, "Self Protection and Personal Safety," is offered twice during orientation week. All new students must attend one of these presentations. They are also open to returning students.

Optional self-defense workshops are offered periodically.

Presentations by the director of the Campus Police Department on safety issues, practices, policies and procedures are presented each year to student leaders, including house presidents, head residents, heads of new students and other student leaders.

The director of the Campus Police Department and other department members make presentations on campus safety issues, practices, policies and procedures to campus residence houses, student organizations and college employees by request or when deemed appropriate.

Campus Police Department brochures, including safety information, crime prevention programs, Operation ID and bicycle registration, are distributed yearly to all students. They are available upon request and are posted in central locations on campus.

Alerts, facts and precautions are distributed to all students and employees when appropriate. Such information is posted in public areas of campus buildings and at other central campus locations.

Student-led workshops on rape awareness, sexual harassment and abusive relationships are regularly presented in campus residence houses.
