Parking is a problem for all members of the
community. Unfortunately, there are no easy and quick solutions. The utilization
of available space combined with enforcement of parking rules and regulations is
critical to both vehicular and pedestrian safety and to insure that the beauty of
the college grounds is preserved. Campus Police requests that all members of the
community comply with the spirit and the letter of the regulations at all times.
Parking Spaces
All parking on the Smith College campus is color coded and applies to vehicles with
current Smith College parking decals or passes. White lines apply to faculty and
staff vehicles. Green lines apply to student vehicles. Orange lines apply to service
vehicles and blue lines for visitors. All vehicles must display appropriate current
decals or passes.
Registration
Staff and faculty eligible for a Smith College parking decal may register a vehicle
at the Campus Police office, 126 West Street, Monday through Friday,
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or order a decal online at www.smith.edu/campuspolice/parking.
For those who order decals online, decals will be mailed to your campus address.
Replacement Vehicles and Decals
If a replacement vehicle is used for a car under repair or other reason, a visitor
pass must be obtained at Campus Police. Should a vehicle with a Smith decal be
traded or no longer in service, the old decal should be removed and returned to
Campus Police. The new vehicle will be registered at no charge when the decal is
returned.
Visitors
Visitors who need to utilize parking for college business from Monday through Friday
(7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) must obtain a one-day parking pass from Campus Police or the
department they are visiting. This parking pass should be displayed by hanging
it from the rear-view mirror of the vehicle and permits visitors to park in white-lined
spaces.
Prohibited Parking
Parking is not permitted on interior campus roads including College Lane and Lower
College Lane or in driveways, except as posted. Parking is also prohibited in the
Quad from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.
Campus Speed Limit
All traffic is restricted to 15 mph, with the exception of ambulance, fire and police
vehicles.
Violations and Penalties
The college will issue tickets and assess fines for violations of the parking regulations.
Vehicles parked in tow-away zones or in unmarked areas that impede access by service
vehicles will be towed.
Appeals
Parking appeals must be filed within seven (7) days from the issuance of the ticket.
Any appeal received after that date will be denied. Appeal forms are available
in the Campus Police Station or may be downloaded from the DPS Web site.
Handicap Parking
Persons with handicap placards may park in any handicap space or white lined space
on campus. If you believe you qualify to park in college handicap spaces but do
not have a placard, visit Disability Services to apply for a temporary college
pass. |
