The Nolen Arts Lounge is a space that belongs to Smith's students - a place for them to share ideas, laugh, talk and think. The goal of the Nolen gallery is to provide the Smith community with a venue for creative, innovative and multicultural visual arts. This educational gallery is a way for the arts to reach a very large and diverse population. As it changes to fit the different exhibits and events it holds, the space adapts itself to the needs of the Smith community.
A wide range of groups have chosen to collaborate with the Art Lounge, from student organizations wishing to reach out to different members of the campus community, to individual artists looking for a central space to show their work.
The flexible space, with its adjustable lighting, moving walls and free standing pedestals allows us to constantly change the look of the Art Lounge to accommodate many different artistic mediums including drawings or paintings and sculpture and pottery.
The mission of the Nolen Arts Lounge is:
- To provide art and culture to the Smith and local community.
- To promote a broader understanding of artistic expression through participation with exhibitions.
- To provide a professional exhibition space for regularly changing exhibitions/exhibits
- To address broad community and social issues through art
- To provide an educational forum in which dialogue and discourse are encouraged
