Program Objective:
The LEAP Program is a student leadership experience at Smith College for all leaders regardless of class year and skill level. This program not only highlights opportunities for involvement but the natural intersections that bring student leaders together outside of the classroom for learning, growth and personal development.
Learning Outcomes:
Through involvement in student life, students are afforded educational opportunities in organization involvement, community service, residence life, student government, internships, athletics or employment opportunities. Regardless of the level of involvement of each student, the following learning outcomes should result from participation in the LEAP program.
- Identification and understanding of one's own leadership style
- The development of skills including critical thinking, moral and ethical development, networking, public speaking and presentation skills, goal clarification and civil discourse
- The understanding of group dynamics including conflict resolution, working with difficult people, diversity, teamwork and motivating others
- Awareness of one's community and the role that each person plays within a community
Program Components:
The Student Leadership Program, LEAP, is comprised of six components: the Student Leadership Conference in the Fall, the monthly newsletter LEAP News, the LEAP Development Series, (encompassing the LEAP Workshops, LEAP Out of Bed 4 Breakfast Series) the Transition and Budgeting Workshops for 2008-2009 Organization Leaders, the Emerging Leader Workshop Series and the Recognizing Excellence Awards Reception in the Spring.
Organization Participation Requirements

On each program component description page, the requirements for Student Organizations are outlined.
While Student Organization attendance is required, the LEAP Program and all of its components are OPEN TO ANYONE who desires to enhance their leadership skills.
