FALL 2012  SCHEDULE

Monday September 24
Lab Safety Training

Margaret A. Rakas, Ph.D.
Manager, Inventory & Regulatory Affairs

Are you thinking about starting a research project or independent study? In order to work in a lab with biological materials and/or chemicals, Smith College requires all students to attend a lab safety seminar once during their Smith career. Given a Smithie's complex schedule in and out of class, it can be difficult to find the time to do this. But everyone has to eat lunch--So--even if you're not planning to start working in a lab until January, come to the Bio Lunchbag on Monday Sept 24. All you have to do is eat, listen, and fill out a 1-page form and you will be able to meet this requirement!

Monday October 15
From E. coli to Ebola

Angela Rasmussen, Smith Alumna, Class of 2000
Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Washington, Seattle

From a job at a T cell immunotherapy company, to a Ph.D. in virology, to a postdoc in systems virology, talk with Angie Rasmussen to learn about a Smithie's career path in the biomedical sciences.

Monday October 22
Graduate School 101: The basics of choosing and applying to grad programs in the Life Sciences
