ImPact Testing
Our athletic training program currently uses a program called ImPACT which tests athletes current neurocognitive functioning. This information is saved and used if the athlete should sustain a concussion while at Smith. The data from the original "baseline" test can be compared to the post-injury test to help determine when the athlete has completely recovered from the injury and when it is safe to return to sports. This information can be tremendously valuable to us in our decision making as our #1 goal is to keep all of you as safe as possible. Decisions about returning athletes to play after concussion are among the most difficult for us to make.
Here's a link to the ImPact site if you would like more information on the test and research, etc:
The test takes about 30-45 minutes to complete and you will need an internet connection and a place with few or no distractions. This test is challenging and it is very important that you try your best. If you do not try your best and your scores are not within the norms, you will be asked to repeat the test. This testing must be completed before your first practice. If you have already completed the test last year or for another sport this year, please DO NOT take it again! You only need to take it once during your time at Smith unless you suffer a concussion.
