Smith competes as a member of the new New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Back-to-back doubleheaders on Fridays and Saturdays make the competition very demanding and exciting. Smith's traditional non-NEWMAC rivals include Brandeis University, Amherst, Trinity, Western New England and Westfield State colleges. During spring break the Pioneers head for warmer climates to train for the upcoming playing season. This trip enables them to compete against some of the top teams in the country from other NCAA regions.
The Pioneers enjoyed another successful season in 2007. Smith ended the season tied for fourth place in the NEWMAC regular season standings and concluded the season with a 16-18 overall record.
