Soccer
Soccer became an intercollegiate varsity sport in 1976 and has developed into one of the finest programs in New England with respect to success, results, and facilities. The Pioneers recorded their 200th victory in 1996, placing them in the top 10 nationally for most wins. The Smith program has produced 18 tournament championships and 17 post-season appearances. Numerous individual awards achieved by our athletes' range from All-American to All-Conference selections.

Springfield Soccer Defeats Smith 5-0
Sophomore forward Katie Mantie (Wallingford, CT) tallied four goals this afternoon in Springfield's 5-0 defeat of Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. With the victory, Springfield improved to 10-4-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the conference while the Pioneers fell to 3-12-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NEWMAC.

Wheaton defeats soccer 2-0
Playing top ranked conference opponent Wheaton, the Pioneers fell 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. The loss dropped Smith to 3-11-1 overall, 2-5-1 in NEWMAC. The Lyons improved to 15-2-1 overall, 6-1-1 in NEWMAC.

The Pioneers fell 3-0 to Clark University last night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. With the victory, the Cougars remained undefeated in NEWMAC play and improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference while Smith dropped to 3-8-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore forward Ellie Theurer (Gainesville, FL) scored the game winning goal while senior midfielder Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) scored two insurance goals as Smith earned another shutout of the season against conference rival Coast Guard. With the 3-0 victory, the Pioneers improved to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NEWMAC while the Bears fell to 2-9-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the conference.
