Lacrosse
Smith's lacrosse team uses a full 19-week playing season and begins its traditional season indoors during the first week of February. The team utilizes the full-sized indoor track and tennis facility until the weather permits a move outside. The Pioneers travel to West Palm Beach, Florida for spring break where they play two to three games before returning to New England to face independents Elms, Skidmore, Western New England, Keene State, New England and UMass-Dartmouth as well as NEWMAC opponents Babson, Wellesley, MIT, Wheaton, Mount Holyoke and Springfield.

Ruth Ness Joins Smith Lacrosse Staff
2005 University of New England graduate Ruth Ness has joined the Smith College lacrosse staff. Ruth has enrolled in the Masters Program in the Exercise and Sport Studies Department and is expected to receive her degree in May, 2012.

Smith Falls to Springfield In NEWMAC Quarterfinals
The Pioneers ended their 2009 season with a 18-3 loss to Springfield College in a quarterfinal contest of the 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship. With the loss, Smith fell to 4-12 overall while the Pride improved to 11-5.

Lacrosse Takes Loss From Springfield
Junior Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) scored three goals today for the Pioneers in Smith's loss to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Springfield College. With the victory, Springfield improved to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the NEWMAC while Smith fell to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

Lacrosse Wins Final Home Game of the Season
The Smith College lacrosse team gave their seniors, Blair Rapalyea (Prides Crossing, MA) and Danielle Schmandt (Austin, TX), something to smile about on senior day with a 10-7 victory over UMass-Dartmouth this afternoon in Northampton, MA. With the win the Pioneers move to 4-10 on the season, while the Corsairs fall to 5-8.

Mount Holyoke Lacrosse Defeats Smith 15-14
In a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest that had eight ties, the Lyons of Mount Holyoke prevailed as they defeated the Pioneers of Smith 15-14. Senior Ava Gottschall (Amherst, MA) scored a game high 7 goals, five in the second half, including the game winner with 22 seconds left in the game.

The Owls of Keene State College scored 9 first half goals en route to their 17-7 defeat of Smith College this evening. With the victory, Keene State improved to 7-7 overall while Smith dropped to 3-8 overall.

Blair Rapalyea '09 (Prides Crossing, MA) led the Smith College lacrosse team to a 14-13 win over Westfield State scoring 5 of the Pioneers 14 goals, including the game-winning goal. With the win the Pioneers improve to 3-7, while the Owls drop to 9-3 on the season.

The Engineers of MIT scored 14 first half goals en route to their 17-2 defeat of Smith College this afternoon in Northampton. With the victory, MIT improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition while Smith dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
