Cross Country
The cross-country program at Smith College has a proud tradition of excellence. Smith runners compete to feel the thrill of victory and to enjoy the physical challenges.
Since its inception in 1981 the cross-country program has successfully competed at the conference, regional and national levels. Smith has sent numerous athletes to Nationals, most recently Nora Youngs '09 in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Smith alumnae Gwen Young '91, placed fourth in the 1990 Open New England Championships and was an NCAA runner-up earning All American honors.

Youngs, Dzialo and Yen Receive Post-Season Honors
Nora Youngs '09 (Penacook, NH) earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All Conference Team honors while Youngs, Christine Dzialo '10 (Belchertown, MA) and Emily Yen '09 (Potomac, MD) were named to the 2008 NEWMAC Academic All Conference team.

Smith Cross Country Finishes 12th at Regionals; Youngs Qualifies for Nationals
The Smith Pioneers cross country team finished 12th out of 57 teams in the NCAA Regional Meet held at Williams College. Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) finished 8th overall with a time of 23:06.5 to qualify for Nationals.

Cross Country Finishes Fourth at NEWMAC Championships
The Pioneers finished 4th today at the NEWMAC Championships with 103 points. MIT won the championship with 27 points followed by Wheaton (77), Springfield (87), Smith (103), Wellesley (105), WPI (175), Coast Guard (180), Mount Holyoke (197), Babson (275) and Clark (280).

Swarthmore Wins Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship; Youngs of Smith Takes Individual Title Second Time In Her Career
The Swarthmore Garnet took first place today with 35 points to win their second title since 1989 in the 27th annual Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship held today at Smith College. Smith Senior Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) raced to her second individual title completing the 5K course today in 19:19.00. She won her first championship as a first year, finished eighth as a sophomore and second last year.

Cross Country Finishes 33rd at Open New Englands
The Pioneers competed today at the Open New England Cross-Country Championships (Divisions I, II & III) and finished in 33rd place, with 921 points, out of 45 schools. Boston College won the event with 38 points.

Smith Finishes 11th at Purple Valley Classic
The Pioneers finished Saturday with 270 points to place them 11th out of 18 teams competing in the Purple Valley Classic held by Williams College.

Springfield Women and Coast Guard Men Win Smith Cross Country Invitational
The Springfield women placed four runners in the top ten while the Bears of Coast Guard swept the first five places to win the women's and men's races today on Smith's 5k course.
