| Coach Ellen O'Neil is in her sixth year as Smith's cross-country coach. The 2006 Smith College Coach of the Year, O'Neil sent individuals to the NCAA National Championships in 2005 and 2006. Prior to her appointment at Smith, O'Neil served as head cross-country and assistant track & field coach at Dartmouth College for ten years. Under her tenure at Dartmouth, O'Neil led her cross-country teams to six NCAA appearances including two top five finishes in 1996 & 1997; four consecutive Ivy League Championships from 1994-97 and has coached 28 Ivy League Champions, 15 All Americans and 11 school record holders. In 1998, she was named the District 1 NCAA Cross Country Coach of the Year and in 2006, was voted the Smith College Coach of the Year. A 1987 graduate of Dartmouth, she received her Master of Science for Teachers Degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1990. As an undergraduate at Dartmouth, O'Neil won six Ivy titles in track and was named the Outstanding Performer of the Ivy Championships in 1985. O'Neil is the co-director of the Gold Medal Running Camp, Inc. in Hanover, NH and served as coach to the US Junior team at the World Cross Country Championships in Belfast, Ireland in 1999. |
