Basketball

2009-10 brochure

The first collegiate women's basketball game was played in 1893 on the Smith campus by Smith women. That event set in motion the series of advancements that have made the collegiate game and the Smith program successful.

Smith basketball mirrors the greater competitiveness of today's women's game and much is demanded of a Smith basketball player, but the rewards are high. Smith plays a challenging non-conference schedule and competes in the highly competitive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), which is granted an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The basketball program has seen some outstanding talent through the years. In addition to eight 1,000 point scorers, the program boasts an All-American, two Academic All-Americans, and two NEWMAC Players fo the Year as well as numerous NEWMAC All Conference and Academic All Conference team members. The goal for Smith basketball is to continue to build upon the success of the program with athletes who are dedicated to educating both the mind and body, while striving for excellence in the classroom and on the court.
