JOB DESCRIPTION
OUTDOOR PROGRAM TRIP LEADER
SMITH OUTDOORS PROGRAM

The basic function of these positions is to assist in planning and facilitating a variety of outdoor recreation activities for Smith students throughout the school year.  In addition to a 6-8 hour/week gear room monitor/office assistant position, there are also a variety of semi-seasonal Outdoor Program Trip leader positions including rock climbing, flat and whitewater canoeing & kayaking, hiking & backpacking, skiing/snowboarding, mtn biking, etc.   Please specify your area of interest when applying.

Although there will be some training, those inquiring should have previous activity specific experience.  Those with more experience and/or instructor certifications will be given preference.  At times, trip leaders will be responsible for the supervision, safety, logistics and overall "feel" of the trips.

Requirments for the job:
Relative competency in the specific outdoor recreation activity you are applying for (ie. rock climbing, hiking or kayaking).  Outdoor related and/or instructor certifications are a bonus.  Training and wilderness first aid certifications are available.

The ability to deal effectively with group dynamics and to recognize safety hazards in an outdoor environment are also important.  As well as a willingness to learn and share that experience with others.  And to have fun at the same time!
