Volleyball Falls at Wellesley

Northampton, MA: In their last match of the regular season, the Pioneers fell to Wellesley in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition in three straight sets, 20-25, 12-25 and 19-25. With the loss, Smith fell to 7-18 overall and 3-6 in the NEWMAC while the Blue improved to 20-9 overall and 7-2 conference play.

In the first set, the Blue led early 10-5 but Smith closed the gap to two points before Wellesley ran off five points  and maintained that lead to take the first set 25-20. In the second set with the score 9-7 Wellesley, the Blue put together a 10-2 run and went on to win 25-12. The third set was close with eight ties, the last at 16-16, before the home team slowly pulled away and won 25-19.

Outside hitter Laurel Belton (San Bernadino, CA) led Smith with 8 kills and added 6 digs.  Setters Lauren Martinez (Phoeniz, AZ) and Courtney Faria (Pocasset, MA) combined for 27 assists while defensive specialist Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) had a game high 14 digs.

The Pioneers will competed in the NEWMAC Volleyball Championship which begins on Tuesday, November 3rd.
