Seven Sisters Championship Results: Day One

Northampton, MA: In day one of Seven Sisters Championship play, Wellesley and Vassar dominated by winning both their matches in their respective pools in three straight sets. From Pool A, Bryn Mawr finishes the day 1-1 while Mount Holyoke remains winless and in Pool B, Smith finishes 1-1 while Elms remains winless.

Pool A Results

Wellesley defeats Mount Holyoke in 3 straight sets (25-9, 25-9, 25-8).
Leaders for Wellesley included first year Isabel Custodio (Powell, OH) with 11 kills and juniors Victoria Peng (Diamond Bar, CA) with 18 assists and Madeleine Brumley (Lafayette, LA) with 5 kills and 8 aces. Contributors for Mount Holyoke were juniors Kateryna Kuc (New Haven, CT) with 7 assists and Rosa Marruffo (Tulsa, OK) with 4 digs.

Bryn Mawr defeats Mount Holyoke in 3 straight sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-18). Leaders for Bryn Mawr were sophomores Katie Merrill (Sierra Madre, CA) with 12 kills and Emily Takeuchi-Miller (Tucson, AZ) with 23 assits. Leaders for Mount Holyoke included Kateryna Kuc with 14 digs and 15 assists and Rosa Marruffo with 8 kills and 4 aces.

Wellesley defeats Bryn Mawr in 3 straight sets (25-8, 25-16, 25-9). First years Elizabeth Campbell (Solona Beach, CA) and Isabel Custodio led Wellesley with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Custodio also added 12 digs while Victoria Peng was a major contributor with 27 assists. For Bryn Mawr, Katie Merrill added 7 kills, first year Samantha Abbott (Alberta, Canada) added 4 kills and Emily Takeuchi-Miller and junior Emma Wisniewski-Barker (Newark, DE) contributed with 7 and 6 assists respectively.

Pool B Results

Smith defeats Elms in 3 straight sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-14).
Leaders for Smith included seniors Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) with 10 kills, 4 blocks and 6 digs and both Brianne Connizzo (Demarestm NJ) and Rachel Lackert (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) adding 6 digs each. Leading the way for Elms was sophomore Stacy Croteau (Agawam, MA) with 14 digs, 3 kills and 2 aces.

Vassar defeats Elms in 3 straight sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-13). Vassar recieved some big hits, serves and saves from a pair of first years. Chloe McGuire (Davis, CA) tallied 8 kills and 10 digs while Hilary Koenigs (Spokane, WA) contributed 26 assists and 5 aces. Elms' leaders included senior Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) with 12 assists and first year Christina Martin (Chicopee, MA) with 12 digs.

Vassar defeats Smith in 3 straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-18). In a match where Vassar made late runs to clinch the victory, they were again led by Hilary Koenigs with 28 assists, 6 digs and 5 aces. Junior Chelsea Mottern (Bound Brook, NJ) contributed 20 digs while seniors Sarah Potts (Bellevue, WA) and Tess Johnson (Henderson, NV) each added 10 and 11 kills respectively. Leaders for Smith included junior Laurel Belton (San Bernadino, CA) with 9 kills and 18 digs and senior Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) with 7 kills and 10 digs
