Volleyball Falls at WNEC in Season Opener

Northampton, MA: In their official debut of the 2009 campaign, the Pioneers fell to Western New England College in three sets. With the win, WNEC improved to 1-2 overall.

Junior middle hitter Shakwana Etienne (West Orange, NJ) sparked the third set comeback attempt with 4 kills, a tremendous service ace, and a well timed solo block.  First year Blair Bell (Upper Montclair, NJ) tallied two kills, one dig and one block assist in her first evening as a Pioneer.  Junior setter, Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, AZ), demonstrated great volleyball acumen and sparked the third set come-back with her up-tempo offense. Martinez posted two kills, eight assists and two digs for the night while co-captain Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) added three blocked shots.

The Pioneers travel to Elms College on Saturday, September 12 to face Elms and Colby-Sawyer.
