Tennis Defeats Springfield 6-3

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers moved into fourth place in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings with their 6-3 defeat of Springfield College today. With the victory, Smith improved to 3-2 overall and in the NEWMAC while Springfield fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in conference competition.

Smith took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play with victories registered by Clair Oblamski (Elm Grove, WI) and Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME) at number two and Maggie Steiner (Madison, CT) and Allyson Hawkins (Plainfield, NH) in the third slot. In singles play, the Pride won the first match to even the score with both teams taking matches to tie it at three.With the match going down to the wire, Dick won her match to give Smith the lead followed by Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, IL) who secured the win.  The Pioneers continue conference play on Saturday when they travel to MIT for a 1 p.m. match.

Doubles
1.  Jaimi Inskeep/Gianna Teague lost to Amy Shaw/Kyla Walgren, 1-8
2. Clair Oblamski/Alanna Dick defeated Talya Pessolano/funmi Olowookere, 8-3
3. Maggie Steiner/Ally Hawkins defeated Erin Woodbury/Vanessa Senecal, 8-2

Singles
1.  Isabela Pal lost to Shaw, 2-6, 3-6
2. Holly Reich defeated Walgren, 6-0, 6-0
3. Inskeep defeated Woodbury, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4
4. Teague lost to Olowookere, 6-7 (3-7), 1-6
5. Oblamski defeated Senecal, 6-1, 6-3
6. Dick defeated Pessolano, 7-5, 6-4
