Tennis Falls to Defending NEWMAC Champion
Northampton, MA: In the first match of the 2009 season for both teams, the Pioneers lost to the defending New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion, Wellesley College, 8-1.
Facing the toughest team in the conference and playing on extremely fast courts, Smith had two three set matches and took one of them. First year Holly Reich (Roslyn Heights, NY) won at number two singles, 5-7, 6-3, and 6-2 while senior Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME) lost a heartbreaker at six singles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-10.
Smith will play in the ITA Tournament next weekend to be held at Wellesley.

1) Jaimi Inskeep/Gianna Teague lost to Mohona Siddique/Jacqueline Shen, 8-2
2) Alanna Dick/Holly Reich lost to Marie Watanabe/Nathalie Herman, 8-2
3) Maggie Steiner/Allyson Hawkins lost to Meghan Stubblebine/Stephanie Chu, 8-1
Singles
1) Isabela Pal lost to Watanabe, 6-3, 6-0
2) Reich defeated Siddique, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2
3) Inskeep lost to Shen, 6-1, 6-1
