Soccer Falls at MIT
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers lost to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent MIT, 6-0, today in Cambridge, Massachusetts. With the loss, Smith fell to 3-9-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the NEWMAC while MIT improved to 8-4-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in league play.
MIT's defense held Smith to just three shots while the Engineers offense controlled play scoring four goals in the first half. Senior Liz Theurer (Gainesville, FL), older sister of Smith player Ellie Theurer, scored what proved to be the game winner in the 15th minute of play with an assist from Lauren Hernley.
Ellie Theurer as well as Meredith Peck (Plymouth, NH) and Bryce Bludevich (Colchester, VT) had the shots for Smith while goalkeeper Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, FL) was kept busy in goal as she made nine saves.
The Pioneers will be back on the field on Tuesday, October 20 when they host NEWMAC rival WPI at 4 p.m.
