Soccer Falls at Clark, 3-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell 3-0 to Clark University last night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. With the victory, the Cougars remained undefeated in NEWMAC play and improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference while Smith dropped to 3-8-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Clark, ranked 10th in New England in the NCSAA poll, got on the board in the 31st minute on a goal by senior Kerri Moy (Newton, MA) off a free kick by Charlotte Bowman (Peterborough, NH).  Less than three minutes later, Bowman scored on a free kick that curled around the right post past Smith keeper Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, FL) to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the half.  Clark's third goal was tallied by Kari Mruz (Hingham, ME) assisted by Rachel Minsky (Bronx, NY) in the 77th minute of play.

The Pioneers best opportunity to score was in the 59th minute when Ellie Theurer (Gainesville, FL) dribbled around Clark's defense but her shot on an open net went wide. Gregor made six saves in the loss for Smith.

The Pioneers are in action again on Saturday when they travel to NEWMAC rival MIT for a 1 p.m. game.
