Soccer Battles Keene State
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers traveled to Keene State College this afternoon and fought hard against a very strong Little East Conference team but took a 5-0 loss. Smith fell to 1-1 on the season while the host Owls improved to 3-1.
The Owls tallied two goals in the first half and three in the second for the victory. Smith first year Yen Hee Chang (Seoul, South Korea) played well on the front line for the Pioneers creating scoring opportunities while classmate Chelby Wakefield (East Longmeadow, MA) started her second collegiate contest and had a solid defensive effort and gained quality experience. Sophomore defender Perri Hom (Westwood, NJ) saved a goal in the second half with a defensive save while goalkeeper Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, FL) played extremely well in goal as she faced 27 shots and made 11 saves.
Smith takes to the road again on Saturday, September 12 when they travel to non-confernence opponent UMass-Dartmouth for a 1 p.m. game.
