Field Hockey Falls at WPI

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers traveled to WPI last night and fell 5-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. Smith dropped to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in the league while WPI improved to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC.

The Engineers scored their first goal in the 11th minute of play when Sasha Marokhovsky (Upton, MA) converted a rebounded shot.  Just ten minutes later, Megan Read (Wrentham, MA) followed up on shot off the post to give WPI a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, WPI tallied three more goals before senior Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) scored off her own rebounded shot for her fifth goal of the season.  Capute led the way for Smith with four of the team's nine shots.  Senior goalkeeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY) faced 14 shots and made nine saves on the night.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host Wheaton College at Enrico Fermi High School in Enfield, Connecticut at 5:30 p.m.
