Field Hockey Falls at Westfield State

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell 2-0 to non-conference opponent Westfield State last night in Westfield, Massachusetts. The Owls improved to 6-6 with the victory while Smith dropped to 3-7 on the season.

Westfield sophomore forward Jessi Gould (Canton, MA) scored both goals for the Owls within a three-minute span in the first half.  Her first goal came off a feed from Kate Moss (Auburn, MA) at the 17:45 mark and she tallied her second unassisted following a scramble in front of the goal at 20:19.

The Pioneers had scoring opportunities but were unable to get on the board.  Goalkeeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY) made three saves in Smith's loss.  Smith returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Monday night when they host Clark University at 7 pm at Holyoke High School.
