Field Hockey Loses 1-0 to Vassar at Seven Sisters Classic

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell 1-0 to Vassar College this afternoon in the last 30 seconds of the game at the Seven Sisters Field Hockey Classic in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. With the loss, Smith fell to 2-3 overall while the Brewers improved to 2-5.

In an evenly contested game with both teams having scoring opportunities, it was sophomore forward Katy Hwang (Millburn, NJ) who scored the winning goal with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to give Vassar the 1-0 victory.  At the expiration of time, the Pioneers were awarded a stroke on a foul by Vassar.  Anika Goodhue (Bennington, VT) took the shot for Smith; her shot went to the left side of the goal but Rachel  Clarkin-Breslin (Litchfield, CT) made the save of the game to give Vassar the victory.

Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) had four shots for Smith while Goodhue and Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) each took three shots.  Goalkeeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY)  allowed one goal and made 11 saves in 70 minutes of action.

Hopkins and Goodhue were selected to the All Classic team.  Other results today found Wellesley defeating Bryn Mawr 13-1 and Mount Holyoke topping Wilson 2-0.
