Field Hockey Defeats Wilson, 2-0, at Seven Sisters Classic

Northampton, MA: Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) scored both goals in the Pioneers defeat of Wilson College this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania at the 2009 Seven Sisters Field Hockey Classic. With the victory, Smith improved to 2-2 while Wilson fell to 0-5.

After a scoreless first half, senior forward Capute scored back-to-back goals within ten minutes of each other to propel the Pioneers past Wilson. Her first goal occurred at the 49 minute mark when classmate Lindsey Nguyen (Brockton, MA) played the ball in front of the goal and Capute deflected the shot into the back of the cage.  Her second goal was unassisted at 59:19 when she played the ball off a Wilson defender.  Capute and Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) each took four shots while senior Anika Goodhue (Bennington, VT) had two.  Senior goalkeeper, Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY), played 70 minutes in goal and made 9 saves.  Nikola Grafnetterova made five saves for Wilson while allowing the two goals.

Other scores from today's first day of competition were Wellesley 2-1 in overtime over Vassar and Mount Holyoke 4-0 over Bryn Mawr.  Tomorrow's play includes Bryn Mawr vs. Wellesley at 10 am, Mount Holyoke against Wilson at noon followed by Smith vs. Vassar at 2 p.m.
